New knowledge on the relationship of tobacco smoking and the risk of atrial fibrillation

We know a number of risk factors that condition the manifestation of atrial fibrillation, many of which are influenced, but many are not, e.g. age. New knowledge of the relationship between the harmfulness of tobacco smoking and the risk of atrial fibrillation with its potentially life-threatening complications (stroke, heart failure) should be a strong imperative for the pursuit of a rational lifestyle, with the exclusion of tobacco smoking.
