Non-pharmacological treatment of prostate cancer
Non-pharmacological treatment of prostate cancer (PC) is an extremely important part of the effective management of this malignancy. The article describes various methods of therapy, especially localized PC. The highest curability has long been demonstrated by radical prostatectomy (open, laparoscopic, robotic) and radiotherapy (external, brachytherapy). Criteria for active follow-up of strictly selected patients are beginning to be defined more precisely. So far, focal techniques are included only in the category of so-called experimental. Accurate identification of the degree of PC risk is a decisive criterion in the indication of various surgical and non-operative procedures. Every physician, who comes into contact with a patient with this extremely complicated and inter-individually different cancer, should be informed about the complexity of the PC issue.
