THE MOST FREQUENT THYROPATHIS IN GENERAL PRACTITIONER´S OFFICE

Highly effective iodine prophylaxis was helpful in eradication of endemic goiter. At the same time the epidemiology of the rest of thyropathies has changed radically. New discoveries in endocrinology, development of the laboratory techniques and diagnostic imaging techniques facilitated diagnostics and treatment of many diseases of the endocrine system, which previously stayed mostly undiscovered. The variety and quantity of certain endocrinopathies, that a general practitioner can come across is continuosly increasing. Despite eradication of endemic goiter thyropathies will always be the most frequent, most easily diagnosed and treatable endocrinopathies. Their carriers represent a great portion of patients in the office of general practitioner and internist. Nowadays, epidemiologically most important is autoimmune thyroiditis and related primary hypothyroidism.
