Possibilities of prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in individuals with prediabetic dysglycemias
Prediabetic dysglycemias (impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance) are risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Possibilities of prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in individuals with prediabetic dysglycemias represent non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions. Non-pharmacological interventions include lifestyle changes (diet, weight control, increase of physical activity, non-smoking). As a drug of first choice in prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients with prediabetes International Diabetes Federation and also American Diabetes Association (IDF also ADA) recommend metformin. At present, in Slovakia using of metformin in this indication is not allowed.
