TREATMENT OF INSOMNIA

Insomnia affects almost one third of the population and has underrated socioeconomic and health consequences, which can also be participated by inadequate therapeutical procedures. The trend in pharmacotherapy of insomnia is towards agonists of benzodiazepine receptors with a cognitive behavioral therapy as an equivalent alternative. Chronic insomnia treatment is tedious; it often requires a combination of pharmaco and psychotherapy and not always is it successful. The authors show an overview of treatment options with a focus on primary chronic insomnia.
