Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – novel
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by inhalation of noxious particles or gases, mainly cigarette smoking. COPD is characterized by airflow limitation, that. is not fully reversible and is usually progressive. The smoking cessation is the first step in the management of the disease. Pharmacologic therapy and non-pharmacologic interventions improve lung functions, exercise performance, quality of life, reduce symptoms, exacerbations and mortality of patients with COPD. Inhaled long-acting bronchodilator medications are central to the symptomatic management of COPD.
