Combination therapy of arterial hypertension in type 2 diabetics
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is often associated with arterial hypertension, which affects approximately 50 – 79 % of type 2 diabetics and 30 – 40 % of type 1 diabetics. It is important risk factor of microangiopathic and macroangiopathic complications of DM. Treatment of arterial hypertension is intervention based on evidence. Non-pharmacologicical strategies are very important. Renin-angiotensin-aldosteron (RAS) blockers are preferred in pharmacological therapy. Combination treatment is necessary in majority of cases. Multifactorial approach, which means not only tight glycemic control, but also aggressive treatment of arterial hypertension and dyslipoproteinemias, is obligatory in the prevention and progression of cardiovascular complications in type 2 DM. At present, in clinical market also in Slovakia we can use „polypill“, new fixed combination to the treatment of arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia.
