Clinical significance and current management of hematospermia
Hematospermia, defined as the presence of blood in the ejaculate, represents a symptom with a diverse etiological spectrum from benign conditions to malignancies. The diagnostic algorithm includes a detailed anamnesis, physical and basic laboratory examination and, in indicated cases, imaging or endoscopic methods. The most common causes include infections of the urogenital tract, inflammatory diseases, vascular abnormalities, iatrogenic factors, etc. A conservative approach is standard in younger men without risk factors, while a comprehensive evaluation is required in older patients or those with suspected malignancy. This review emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary collaboration and an individualized approach to the management of patients with hematospermia.
