Climacteric and Bone: Substitutional Hormonal Therapy in Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis
Hormonal replacement therapy in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Deficit of estrogens is the leading cause of postmenopausal osteoporosis. It is logical that estrogen substitution is the most physiological kind of treatment.Estrogens alone or in combination with gestagens leads to significant reduction of osteoporotic fractures in all osteoporotic localizations. The effect lasts only during the treatment period. The nonskeletal effects of estrogen replacement are the limitations of longterm therapy.
Keywords: strogens, bone mineral density, fractures.
