Cardioembolic stroke
Cardioembolic stroke is a frequent cause of brain infarction. The article deals with cardiac causes of embolisation to central nervous system and their management. Diagnostic algorithm comprises brain imaging (CT and MRI), extra- and intracranial brain vessels imaging, 12 lead electrocardiography, echocardiography and other diagnostic procedures. In prevention of cardioembolism antiplatelet therapy and anticoagulation therapy is indicated.
