Lung cancer has crossed the threshold into the third millennium – part 1
In spite of the substantial progress in cancer research remains the lung cancer an extremely serious problem. Also in the year 2008 it occupied the first place in the ranking of malignant tumors with 1,61 million of new cases worldwide. Even more worrying is the fact that it has been also the leading cause of death from malignant tumors. It is alarming, that in the Slovak Republic the proportion of patients diagnosed with advanced stages of the disease is increasing and it is one of the factors of high mortality as well.
