URINARY INCONTINENCE – CURRENT DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES

Urinary incontinence is a serious economical, social and medical problem. The percentage of occurrance in Slovakia reaches 25%. The cost of treatment is ever increasing, currently surpassing costs required for cardio-surgical treatments and kidney dialysis. Prevalence of urinary incontinence increases with age and it‘s ethiology is multifactorial. Predispositional factors include sex, positive family history, obesity, hormonal profile, gynecological history, number of conceived births, as well as other factors. At present, a conservative treatment is available for all types of urinary incontinence. Minimally invasive surgical techniques are mainly used for treatment of stress induced urinary incontinence. The following article focuses on prevalence, ethiology, classification, diagnosis, and treatment of urinary incontinence.
