Infectious liver foci
Liver diseases is a daily practice not only for gastroenterologists but also for general practitioners for adults or internist. Although not-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatitis C virus are at the forefront of current hepatology, we should not forget the less common, but even more serious, infectious liver disease. The possibility of a rare liver infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient with septic temperatures and pain under the right rib arch. The pathogenesis of liver infections is multifactorial. The patient´s performance status plays an important role in the prognosis as these infections affect more frequently immunocompromised elderly patients. In the diagnosis it is necessary to emphasize travel history, imaging examinations such as ultrasonography and CT. Broad spectrum antibiotics are used in the therapy or surgical treatment is the necessary. In the following article we present a summary of etiopathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment of infectious liver foci.
