Generalized and localized (regional) edema

The article informs about current views of the etiopathogenesis, classification, differential diagnosis and rational treatment of generalized and localized (regional) edema. Edema is ordinarily defined as an abnormal accumulation of extra vascular extracellular interstitial fluid of sufficient magnitude to be clinically detectable. Edema may be generalized or localized. Pathofysiological mechanisms of edema are different. The rational approach to the management of edema is correction of the underlying disease process.
