Pharmacological therapy and non-pharmacological measures in patient after myocardial infarction
Patients after myocardial infarction have increased risk of reinfarction and higher mortality in comparison to general population. The aim of the secondary prevention is to decrease mortality and reinfarction as well as to improve the quality of life. Secondary prevention is based on the lifestyle modification (smoking cessation, physical activity, diet) and on pharmacological therapy (antiplatelet treatment, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors or sartans and statins). In selected patients implantation of cardioverter-defibrilator is indicated in primary or secondary prevention of malignant ventricular arrhythmias.
