DIAGNOSIS OF OSTEOPOROSIS
Bone densitometry, especially in spine and proximal femur region, is regarded as the best method in clinical practice for the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Correct interpretation of densitometric results requires understanding of the measurement method and knowledge of the sensitivity and specificity of used technique. Numbers of factors may influence results of densitometric measurement. Consistent exclusion of these factors will increase the sensitivity of measurement and avoid false negative results. Proper differential diagnosis of low bone density and precise diagnosis of osteoporosis are key issues in clinical decision making about the treatment.
