Diabesity and elderly people
Diabesity is a relatively new term that expresses the pathophysiological and clinical relationship between obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The assessment of the state of nutrition in older age significantly modifies the old-age changes of the organism. The open question is the determination of the ideal weight. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in elderly individuals is increasing and is, together with obesity, the cause of increased morbidity and mortality. Diabesity can be influenced even in elderly age non-pharmacologically and pharmacologically.
