Determinants of good health in old age
Prolonging of human life has led to a realization that early measures must be taken to ensure a healthy ageing. Among factors that determine quality of life of old persons is the ability to live independently and appropriate cognitive and physical functioning. The determinants of good health in the old age represents unique challenges for evidence-based medicine practice. The present article briefly summarizes the current knowledge on the selected molecular biological mechanisms of aging and also discusses results of recent studies concerning interventions to protect and improve health in old age.
