Bacterial immune-modulators from a new perspective

New knowledge from the field of innate and adaptive immunity provides new perspective for immune-modulators of bacterial origin. These preparations, historically developed empirically parallel with classical anti-infective vaccines, are nowadays coming from mechanisms proven both theoretically and in practice. In the past 10 years many experimental studies, but also randomized, double blind controlled studies were published, which confirmed their efficacy and safety. Despite stated many colleagues do not trust them − both from the view of efficacy and side effects. In submitted article we want to confute these doubts and to present most appropriate indications in the meaning of evidence based medicine.

Keywords: recurrent infections, bacterial immune-modulators, pattern recognition receptors, microbe-associated molecular patterns.
