Anticoagulation treatment in praxis of general practitioner for adults

Based on the extended competencies in prescription of medicines in the Slovak republic, since October 1st 2009, the general practitioner for adults, in cooperation with the specialist, is entitled to indicate, control and manage the anticoagulation treatment by warfarin sodium. Significance of the treatment was demonstrated by large studies, while for many patients there is a need for a lifetime treatment. Despite the intensive progress in development of new medicines with anticoagulant effect, the use of warfarin sodium yet remains effective and reliable method in the majority of indications.
