Antidiabetic treatment in obese patients with type 2 diabetes
Traditional antidiabetics that are used to treat obese patients with type 2 diabetes usually lead to further weight gain. The choice of antidiabetic agent plays an important role in the management of obese patient with type 2 diabetes. A clinically important goal is the elimination of pharmacologically induced weight gain. There is a higher presumption that metabolic compensation will improve when choosing an antidiabetic that has a beneficial effect on body weight. Antidiabetic drugs that are currently available, in addition to weight loss, have a beneficial effect on cardiovascular mortality.
