CURRENT RESISTENCY OF PATHOGENS OF THE UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT

Evaluation of the status and trends in resistance to investigational antibiotics in the most important causative agents of bacterial respiratory tract infections – Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus in community acquired patients. The authors recorded a moderately increasing trend in the resistance of the strains of Staphylococcus aureus to methicilin and considerable local differences. Stabilized situation were recorded in the resistance rate of Streptococcus pneumoniae. The results presented in this paper document the value of resistance surveillance as a basis for monitoring of trends in bacterial resistance.

Keywords: Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Methicilin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Influence of surveillance of resistance.
