Vitality of rectum and sigmoid colon after resection of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm – case report

Rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm is a life-threatening condition with high mortality. Rectal and sigmoid ischemia is one of the early postoperative complications. Case report: 72-year-old patient with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm with current aneurysm dilation of bilateral iliac artery (communis and internal) was urgently operated in general hospital in Povazska Bystrica. Resection of abdominal aortic aneurysm with implantation of aorto-biiliac bypass with the outflow tract to both internal iliac arteries was performed. Both internal iliacal arteries have been trombotic obliterated. Inferior mesenteric artery could not have been used for reimplantation to Dacron prosthesis beause of present atherosclerotic and thrombotic occlusion. The patient healed primarily without any major complications. Ischemic colitis was not developed because of parieto-visceral collateral circulation.
