The link between thrombosis and cancer (the story of Armand Trousseau)

The pathogenesis of hemostatic disorders of the cancer patients is particularly complex and reflects the multifaceted relations of inflammation and hemostasis. The relationship between cancer and thrombosis appears to be reciprocal: cancer predisposing to thrombosis and tumor progression is tightly intertwined with this hypercoagulable state. Armand Trousseau (1801–1867), an eminent French doctor, thanks to his susceptibility noticed the relationship between thrombosis and cancer knowledge and published in 1865. Given that VTE may be the first signs that the patient has previously unrecognized cancer diseases, it is important to think about this fact and patient to undergo further examination, screening for cancer.
