The specifics infection SARS-CoV-2 from the sight of intensivist

The disease caused by virus SARS-CoV-2 has a spread spectrum of clinical symptoms, from the asymptomatic one through mild manifestation of the upper respiratory tract inflammation to the severe bilateral pneumony with progression to respiratory failure and multiorgan dysfunction with necessary to admission on ICU and which requires life support with a mechanical ventilator. Severe clinical features and comorbidities are associated with a poor prognosis and high rate of mortality. Despide the progress and better understanding of disease pathophysiology, several hypoxemia is still the main cause of death in Covid associated ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), with progress to acute respiratory failure.
