Contemporary trends in surgical treatment of critical limb ischemia

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is the latest stage of the lower extremity peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD). Surgical treatment can be combined with the endovascular procedure in the complex care of PAD. TASC II and BASIL studies recommend the optimal treatment strategy for patients with PAD. Surgical treatment includes not only revascularization, but the saving procedure in case of lower extremity tissue defect as well. Integral part of the postoperative care is medical treatment od PAD, graft patency follow up and the rehabilitation.
