Periprocedural neurological management of surgery and endovascular interventions on brain supplying arteries
Carotid artery stenosis are amongst common causes of stroke. Management of patients with severe symptomatic stenosis is usually multidisciplinary. Beside drug therapy, indication for carotid endarterectomy or endovascular treatment (stenting) has to be evaluated. Complicated, multiple carotid stenosis or stenosis in polymorbid patients is appropriate to follow in detail and monitor perioperatively, to provide optimal acute neurological treatment, if needed. Given the wide range of available methods of intraoperative monitoring it is now possible to arrange „tailor made“ monitoring to minimize the risks of the procedure. Close interdisciplinary collaboration and patient cooperation is a prerequisite for effective treatment.
