Management of selected cardiovascular diseases in older patients with haemophilia A
Even though haemophilia predominantly causes the development of bleeding symptoms, this disorder does not prevent from cardiovascular events. Actually, their development - namely arterial or venous thrombosis, or myocardial infarction, as well as and the need of prevention of ischaemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation in patients with inherited bleeding disorders have drawn significant attention. There are no evidence-based guidelines for antithrombotic therapy in affected individuals. Thus, such management including anticoagulant treatment must weigh a risk of haemorrhage in a patient who is already at increased risk and the consequences of not treating the thrombotic episode. The authors present the article discussing the management of cardiovascular complications in patients with haemophilia with special focus on thrombosis and sincerely hope that this review will contribute to the current understanding of the present knowledge about these issues.
