Acute dissection type A – surgical domain

Despite the indisputable development and benefit of endovascular treatment of aorta, the acute dissection of type A still remains as a domain for surgeons and requires an emergent surgical execution. The aetiology of aortic dissection formation is multifactorial and its diagnosis and treatment is multidisciplinary. This article offers an overview of presently used surgical techniques for the surgical treatment of acute dissection of type A. In this article we focus on cerebral protection against ischemia which is considered to be crucial regarding the after surgical survival and neurological consequences.
