Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of von Willebrand disease

Von Willebrand disease is the most common bleeding disorder. It is caused by qualitative (type 2) and quantitative (types 1 and 3) defect of von Willebrand factor. Type 2 is divided into subtypes 2A, 2B, 2M and 2N. It is essential for optimal management of the disease to identify the type of von Willebrand disease. For the exact diagnosis a wide scale of the tests is inevitable. There are screening, specific and discriminating tests.
