COVID-19 and acute limb ischemia – case report

SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection can manifest with many clinical signs, including arterial thrombosis and ALI. Viral endothelial damage, endothelial dysfunction, the systemic inflammatory response of the organism as well as the hypercoagulable state associated with COVID -19 are probably involved in the etiopathogenesis. Concomitant coagulopathy significantly worsens the prognosis of patients and increases overall mortality. During the 2nd wave of the pandemic in the period from October 2020 to March 2021, we treated 5 patients with ongoing COVID 19 infection or in the postcovid period with current manifestations of acute limb ischemia (ALI) at the Department of Vascular Surgery of the University Hospital in Prešov. In the patient presented in the case report, the disease was manifested by colitis and repeated retrombotizations of the lower limb arterial system at various times during and after the remission of clinical symptoms COVID-19. This indicates the variability of symptoms as well as the severity of the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
