Chronic venous disease – underestimated reason of temporary disability
Chronic venous disease of the lower extremities (CVD) belongs to the most common chronic inflammatory diseases in developed countries. The attention paid to the CVD issue, its research and funding is unfortunately in contranst to its prevalence und socioeconomic burden. In our work we used the data from the medical records of the outpatient clinic in Galanta in years 2009 till 2013 (together 2948 patients, 1344 M/1604 F, age 45 ±16 ), statistics from the head office of the Social insurance company from the years 2007 till 2011, and archive files of the branch of the Social insurance company in Galanta from the years 2007 till 2011. We could proove that number of temporary disability (TD) due to venous disease in monitored intervall had an ascending trend. The number of TDs due to venous disease makes 1% of the all TD in a year (aproximatelly 7 554 TDs annually). The average TD duration due to venous disease lasts longer as the average TD due to all diseases, on average by over a quarter. CVD affects people in productive age and the CVD complications are one of the most common causes for temporary disability, hospitalisation and invalidism. It is associated with an substantial socio-economical impact on the society. Rigorous detection and therapy of venous disease risk factors, early diagnostic and adequate therapy can markedly slow down the progression of the venous disease.
