The surgical treatment of aneurysms of internal carotid artery

The authors describe their experience with the surgical treatment of extracranial aneurysms of internal carotid artery in 14 patients. Indication for surgery was diagnosed asymptomatic and symptomatic aneurysm of internal carotid artery, which was 1.5-2 times that of the diameter of a physiological internal carotid artery. The authors provided analysis of the type of arterial reconstruction in patients with aneurysm of internal carotid artery. In a retrospective analysis in a set of 14 patients were evaluated perioperative results of arterial reconstruction in the extracranial carotid artery aneurysm. All patients were operated in general anesthesia. Intraoperative cerebral monitoring was carried out using transcranial oximetry. The optimal surgical option for patients with aneurysm of internal carotid artery is resection of aneurysm and replacement by autologic vein or PTTF prosthesis, sacular aneurysms is also suitable aneuryzmoraphy. In the postoperative period, major complications (stroke, MI) or death occurred. Intraoperative damage to the nerves of the brain was found in 1 patients. Surgical reconstruction of extracranial aneurysms of internal carotid artery has good long-term results.
