Current strategies in endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms

Endovascular coiling has been used increasingly as an alternative to neurosurgical clipping for treating subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to aneurysm rupture. The aim of this paper was to provide an overview of current status in endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms with special focus on ruptured aneurysms. The key important parts of paper are evidence based medicine data comparing surgical and endovascular method of treatment for ruptured intracranial aneurysms and technical issues of coiling with and without stent or balloon remodeling. There are also discussed new alternative techniques of intracranial aneurysms endovascular treatment, as flowdiverter stents and liquid embolic agents (Onyx). Parts of the paper are pictorial case presentations.
