Effect of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements on human health with a focus on the urogenital system. What are the risks involved in their deficiency or overdose? – 2nd part
What was mentioned in the previous chapter on the effect of vitamins on the human body applies as well to minerals and trace elements, namely that abundant literature has been published on their effect on the human body; however, given the fact that some of the publications are produced by the manufacturers of food supplements themselves, these are frequently written in a tendentious way in order to persuade the reader of the necessity of taking such products, and their scientific validity is often biased. For this reason, there is a risk that, due to excessive use because of advertising, the users of these food supplements can relatively easily overdose with these minerals and trace elements with all the subsequent negative effects. The review article briefly presents the basic facts and data on these substances. Those substances that have an immediate effect on the urogenital system (Na, K, Ca, Mg, P, Zn, Se) are dealt with in more detail.
Keywords: minerals, trace elements, recommended dose, deficiency, overdose.
