TRAUMATIC LOWER URINARY TRACT DYSFUNCTION: AETIOLOGY, PREVALENCE AND CLASSIFICATION

Spinal cord injury is caused by a trauma in 70 % of patients, usually as a result of a trauma to the spinal cord. Incidence of spinal cord injury is estimated at 14 /1 000 000 worldwide and the number of new cases in Czech republic vary from 200 to 300 per a year. Neurogenic dysfunctions of lower urinary tract develop in 80 % of these patients. The principal point of the classification of lower urinary tract dysfunctions is the description of the affection of the both functional units: detrusor and urethral sphincters.
