A "problematic" patient at the urologist's surgery
The treatment of so-called problematic patients is arduous, requiring increased effort and time of the attending staff. A number of various factors, including not only psychological factors, but currently more increasingly socioeconomic ones, can be responsible for the patient’s becoming problematic. Correct treatment of these patients requires a good understanding of the individual factors and the establishing of a good-quality therapeutic relationship. It is sometimes difficult to avoid personal antipathy in treating these patients; nevertheless, even appropriate communicative skills with a problematic patient should be a part of a good urologist’s toolkit.
Keywords: psychological factors, socio-economic factors, therapeutic relationship.
