Treatment of urinary tract infections in the era of antibiotic resistance
Recently, there has been increasing prevalence of both healthcare-associated and community-acquired urinary tract infections caused by bacteria resistant to commonly prescribed antibiotics. The article summarises the types of antibiotic resistance commonly seen in everyday urological practice and also outlines the principles of antibiotic therapy and prevention of urinary tract infections caused by resistant pathogens.
