Diagnosis and treatment of penile cancer

Penile cancer is a disease with a very low incidence in the Czech Republic. For this reason it is advisable that patients with this diagnosis be referred to and managed in centres where the staff has experience with this disease. This centralization of care leads to better oncological outcomes. The paper presents the latest update of the TNM classification and the new histopathological classification of premalignant lesions, which facilitates and refines the indications to surgical treatment. The authors provide an overview of the options of surgical treatment both in terms of treatment of the primary tumour and in terms of management of nodal involvement. Attention is also paid to other treatment modalities, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
