Hamate fracture and its surgical treatment – a case report
Fractures of the hamate are rare wrist injury. They are classified into two basic types: as those affecting the body and those affecting the hook. Coronal fractures of the body are associated with instability and subluxation in the carpo-metacarpal joints and therefore require surgical treatment. In this case report is presented a coronal fracture of the hamate with comminuted fracture of the base of the fourth metacarpal bone, treated with open reduction and osteosynthesis by screw and Kirschner wires with excellent postoperative result.
