Use of the RIA technique (Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator) and its most common complications

The Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator is an modern device for pre-drilling the marrow cavity of the bone, developed to reduce the incidence of bone thermal necrosis and fat embolisms linked with intramedullary drilling during the treatment of long bones fractures. Following the beginning of its use, its indications have expanded to include the treatment of osteomyelitis of long bones as well as the “harvester” of cancellous bone and mesenchymal stem cells. The Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator system allows to provide large volumes of high-quality morselized autologous bone. Like any invasive surgical procedure, it is associated with a certain degree of complications.
