The using of mesenchymal stem cells in treatment of Type I. diabetes
Diabetes mellitus is one of the biggest socio-economic and health problems today. Oral antidiabetic drugs and insulin are used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Other treatment options for diabetes mellitus was used currently, some of them have their limitations. One of possibility of treatment is pancreatic transplantation. The problem is a lot of patients on the waiting list and the limited supply of donor pancreas. Moreover, transplantations of the pancreas have risks of immunosuppressive therapy. It is essential to seek other treatment options. In cases of Type 1 diabetes is showing very promising possibility of using stem cells. There are several types of stem cells that are able to specify procedures dedifferentiation, transdifferentiation, or differentiation, and to produce Insulin-producing cells(IPC) or to initiate regeneration of islet cells themselves (LI).
