Use of 2D and 3D endoanal sonography in the diagnosis of fecal incontinence

Endoanal sonography is minimally invasive and available imaging method used in the diagnosis of anorectal diseases. In the hands of an experienced specialist achieves results comparable to MRI. Rectal endosonography completes the diagnosis of benign and malignant diseases and anorectal examination is important in patients with fecal incontinence. Department of Surgery at the UN Martin were examined 56 in 2D and 25 patients in the 3D ultrasound display clinical evidence of fecal incontinence. Of the 56 patients was observed in 5 patients isolated defect MSAI ( internal anal sphincter ) as an iatrogenic cause after anorectal surgery. Four patients had isolated damage MSAE (external anal sphincter ) for postnatal defect. In two patients, we confirmed the combined disability MSAE and MSAI trauma as a result of the anal canal and postpartum damage. There was no clear difference between 2D and 3D ultrasound imaging for clinical use. We compared the thickness of both sphincters, which correlated well with the severity of fecal incontinence.
