The pitfalls of thromboprophylaxis in neurosurgical patients

Authors analysed effectiveness and risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention in neurosurgical patients with the highest risk of VTE that have been hospitalized in Neurosurgery clinic JFM CU and UH in Martin within last 5 years. The proven complex thromboprophylaxis, including early and prolonged pharmacological prevention of VTE has been administered to patients. The incidence of VTE causally related to neurosurgical treatment has been selected as the parameter evaluated prophylaxis effectiveness and parameter that evaluated risk of complex VTE prevention has been the incidence of bleeding. Simultaneously, the authors identified the most serious risk factors of VTE in followed group of patients.
