Types of stem cells potentially available in chronic diabetic wound treatment

There is a constant endeavour to improve and accelerate the healing of chronic, often diabetic wounds. This moves the treatment towards the aim of affection the biochemical and pathophysiological processes included in wound healing. These processes can be manipulate by usage of different growth factors, acellular scaffolds or directly by usage of different cell types. Especially stem cells with their production of wide variety of substances can affect wound bed environment and help to speed-up healing process. Several types of stem cells have been used in different experiments with appropriate results. Although there are some clinical trials, the exact mechanism of their function and long-term effects are not known till now. Only the future clinical trials will show us the potention of such a therapy.
