Vascular resections and reconstructions during resection of pancreas

Vascular resections during pancreatic resection are more often in surgical practice in order to achieve negative resection margin. We present review of vascular reconstructive procedures after vascular resection during pancreatoduodenectomy. It shows that in cooperation with vascular surgeons it is possible to perform also complicated vascular reconstructions if they are required by situations. At the Department of Surgery, F.D.Roosevelt Hospital in Banská Bystrica during period 2000–2013 we performed 49 cephalic pancreatoduodenectomies conected with vascular resection. Vascular resection did not have significant influence to mortality. While arterial resections are performed only in case of necessity, venous reconstructions are standard procedure if they help to achieve negative resection margin.
