Comparison caudal and penile block during circumcision in children
The use of penile blockade in pediatric patients undergoing circumcision is relatively common for a number of advantages and simplicity to perform. In the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Children's Faculty Hospital in Banská Bystrica during the period of two years 57 boys underwent circumcision using penile block. The average time required to carry out penile block by anesthesiologist was 5.68 min. The success of penile blockade in our study group was 84.21%. Only two complications of puncture dorsalis penis artery ware recorded. In the postoperative period, patients had low pain scores during the first 4 hours. Only 13.04% of patients required postoperative administration of painkillers, a median time to painkiller administration was 356.67 min. Penile block is a effective method to perioperative and postoperative pain management in pediatric patients undergoing surgery on the penis.
