Burns and polytrauma – case report

Extensive burns pose a critical threat to the lives of patients, and when they occur concurrently with severe trauma, the accurate diagnosis of additional injuries becomes a challenging task. Concealed injuries may also exist beneath the burnt tissues, and the precision of physical examinations can be compromised in areas affected by burns. It is imperative to consider the possibility of additional injuries from the very outset of pre-hospital care. Swift identification and prioritization of injuries, along with subsequent treatment, offer the greatest potential for the patient‘s survival. This case report describes the medical management of a 29-year-old female patient who received treatment for a combination of severe trauma and burns covering 58% of her body at the Burns and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Clinic, LF UPJŠ and Hospital AGEL Košice-Šaca, a.s.
