New guidelines of medical treatment of diabetic foot infections

Deep foot infection (DFI) is grave and common complication of diabetes, frequently leading to amputation of the limb. Current situation in treatment of DFI is unfavorable and can be ameliorated by adoption of guidelines and management protocols. One of the most important aspects of treatment of DFI is antibiotic therapy, which guidelines go through frequent changes. Authors in review article assess current situation in the field of management of DFI and discuss current possibilities and indications of antibiotic therapy. Authors conclude article with statement of need to adhere to guidelines for improvement of results of treatment of patients with DFI.
