Appendiceal mucocele – case reports

Mucocele of appendix is a rare condition. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to non-specific clinical manifestation of the disease. It can be benign and malign. Imaging tests, mainly CT examination can suggest the diagnosis. Most patients have no symptoms. The treatment is always surgical. The prognosis is good in case of removal of the appendix in its entirety. The perforation can lead to pseudomyxoma peritonei, which has a very poor prognosis.
